Landmark Community Theatre, Inc.  Receives CT Cultural Fund Operating Support Grant from CT Humanities

Thomaston, CT (2/7/2023) — Landmark Community Theatre, Inc. was recently awarded a $15,000 CT Cultural Fund Operating Support Grant from CT Humanities (CTH). CT Cultural Fund Operating Support Grants assist organizations as they recover from the pandemic and maintain and grow their ability to serve their community and the public.

This general operating support grant supports Landmark’s mission as it stages larger and more difficult shows. It also provides critical support for our student and teen programs. Numerous studies have demonstrated a correlation between participation in the performing arts and academic achievement. In addition to having higher standardized test scores than their peers who do not experience the arts, students who participate often experience improved reading comprehension, maintain better attendance records and stay more engaged in school than students not involved in a performing arts experience.

“We are overjoyed with the award of this grant from CT Humanities. The support granted to us will be used to foster our educational programs and help to expand our ability to provide diverse, equitable, and inclusive theater for the community.” - Andrea Bingham, Director of Education & Programming

Landmark Community Theatre, Inc. was one of 723 organizations in Connecticut receiving a CT Cultural Fund Operating Support Grant. Totaling more than $8.5M, these grants are part of a two-year, $30.7M investment in arts, humanities, and cultural nonprofits by the CT General Assembly and approved by Governor Ned Lamont.

This CT Cultural Fund Operating Support Grant is provided to Landmark Community Theatre, Inc. from CT Humanities, with funding from the Connecticut State Department of Economic and Community Development/Connecticut Office of the Arts (COA) from the Connecticut State Legislature.

Landmark Community Theatre offers opportunities to area artists to produce plays and musicals, which are then staged for the community at a price point that is consistent with its financial ability to enjoy. Landmark offers education for children, teens, adults, and seniors in the performing arts. We are also very active in the preservation of our theatre’s architecture believing that architecture is an art form and stands as an example of our own history and culture on a local and national level. The Thomaston Opera House was built by the people, for the people, and should remain a community facility while serving the region at large.

CT Humanities (CTH) is an independent, nonprofit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. CTH connects people to the humanities through grants, partnerships, and collaborative programs. CTH projects, administration, and program development are supported by state and federal matching funds, community foundations, and gifts from private sources. The Connecticut Office of the Arts (COA) is the state agency charged with fostering the health of Connecticut’s creative economy. Part of the state’s Department of Economic and Community Development, the COA is funded by the State of Connecticut and the National Endowment for the Arts.
